ASM’s ‘Paapi’ conjures the spirit of rock and roll

Image
Photo: Facebook/ASM On January 13, rock band ASM, released their new song Paapi , on YouTube. Paapi is the first track of ASM’s upcoming album AMS II, which is slated to release in 2024. The song is based on a chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, entitled Plight of Arjun, in which Arjun is in an emotional dilemma on whether or not to fight his brothers the Kauravas. Paapi carries a heavy feel, resembling an ode to the golden era of rock music. The riffs are both authentic and untainted, transporting listeners back in time. However, in an era dominated by EDM and pop music, the song has not achieved the level of success the band had hoped for. “It is what it is. We have to accept it,” says Abhishek S. Mishra (popularly known as ASM) accepting the views is a lot less than what they had hoped for. “If Paapi had been released in the rock era of the 90s where bands like 1974 AD , Nepathya and Cobweb were ruling the industry things would have been different,” says Mishra. Road accidents have been common throughout the country with Nepal Police data suggesting over 2,500 people dying in them annually. Despite this, the Ministry of Finance has shown reluctance to introduce the proposed Road Safety Bill to reduce traffic accidents, fatalities, and serious injuries, and enhance road safety. Erroneous border pillar placement plagues Nepali farmers in Madhesh

Ram Bujhaun Yadav with his land ownership certificate stands near a border pillar which he says was erroneously placed on his land. In October 2023, when 51-year-old Ram Bujhaun Yadav of Musaharnia Rural Municipality-5, Mukhiyapatti, Dhanusha, was at a relative’s house, someone told him that two Indian Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel were looking for him. Anxious, he rushed home wondering why they were looking for him. “They asked me if the paddy field in the no man’s land was mine. I told them yes and they asked me to cut down the paddy immediately,” he said. The paddy was not ripe and Yadav asked them for some time. However, the SSB personnel told him he had to cut down his paddy immediately. Ram Bujhaun and his wife Tetari Devi each own a 677-square-metre plot of land. As Nepal and India reevaluated the border, Ram Bujhan’s land was been deemed to be near the no man’s land as it now has two demarcation pillars. Frustrated, Ram Bujhaun cut the paddy before it was due to...
