Nepal, EU sign grant agreement of more than Rs 10.5 billion

The flag of the European Union Kathmandu, July 21 A grant agreement of more than Rs 10.5 billion has been signed between Nepal and the European Union (EU) for two different programmes. During a program held at the Finance Ministry on Friday, two distinct financing agreements were signed. The first agreement entails a grant of 50 million pounds sterling (equivalent to Rs. 7.38 billion) dedicated to ‘Quality Education for All’ in support of the School Education Sector Plan – SESP. The second agreement involves a grant of 22 million pounds sterling (equivalent to Rs. 3.25 billion) designated for the ‘Local Adaptation to Climate Change’ initiative. Quality Education for All will support the implementation of the government’s School Education Sector Plan in a sector-wide approach (SWAP) supported by eight development partners, including the EU. Nepal, UAE to compete for the ACC Men’s Premier Cup title

Photo: Shankar Giri Kathmandu, April 29 Nepal and the United Arab Emirates have reached the final of the ACC Men’s Premier Cup to be held in Kathmandu on Monday. Both semifinal matches of the tournament were held in Kathmandu on Saturday, but due to rainfall, only one match could produce the result albeit through the DLS method . In the semifinal between Nepal and Kuwait, Nepal, put to bat first, posted a 281-run target to the opponents. While Nepal had scored 281 runs, the target was reduced by a run by applying the DLS method as the innings was reduced to 42 overs. For the hosts, captain Rohit Paudel scored the highest of 94 runs. In the second innings, Karan KC alone took five wickets. But the rain stopped the play again when Kuwait lost six wickets for a meagre 37 runs in 8.3 overs. Nepal, US begin joint military exercise in Kathmandu

File photo for representation only Kathmandu, January 10 A joint military exercise between Nepal and the United States has begun at Chhauni in Kathmandu. The 12th edition of the joint military exercise has the participation of 35 army staffers from the Nepal Army and 19 from the US Army, according to the Nepal Army . The exercise will go through February 3 this year and will be held in Nagarkot as well, according to the national military organisation. The event will focus on search and rescue operations during disasters . The Nepal Army has been conducting such joint events with Indian and American armies for the past several years. Meanwhile, in view of the early preparedness for the untoward incidents relating to cable cars, the Nepal Army recently practised a rescue operation.
