Govt to procure 500,000 quintals of paddy from Nepali farmers this year

The Food Management and Trading Company has taken swift action to speed up paddy procurement, ensuring a sufficient quantity in government food stores and fair prices for farmers. Mohan Chand, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, confirmed the initiation of the procurement process for 500,000 quintals of paddy valued at Rs 1.74 billion this year. “We have already commenced the paddy procurement,” said Chand. The company has acknowledged criticism for the slow pace of paddy procurement last year and has responded by increasing both the quantity of paddy procured and the government allocation this year. Pelican crossing installed in Babarmahal to aid pedestrians

Kathmandu, November 27 A pelican crossing has been installed in Babarmahal to facilitate pedestrian road crossing. The push-button traffic light has been installed opposite the Kathmandu District Court. Currently, automatic traffic lights are operational at various intersections in the Kathmandu valley. Jagatman Shrestha, the traffic advisor of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City , has stated that a pelican crossing has been established to enable pedestrians to activate the traffic lights by pressing a button. The installation cost for the pelican crossing is Rs 1 million. “The light will turn green for the pedestrian to cross the road two minutes after they press the button,” said Shrestha. Shrestha added the metropolis is in the process of installing traffic lights with similar technology in front of 36 different schools across Kathmandu. TU Central Library to open study rooms for 24 hours

Three study rooms of the Central Library will be open for 24 hours. Kathmandu, November 26 The Tribhuvan University Central Library has commenced round-the-clock operations to provide students with a more accommodating reading environment. This initiative aims to foster a culture of continuous learning and support students in their academic pursuits. Sagar Raj Subedi, acting head of the Central Library, informed that the three study rooms of the library are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the convenience of the students. Subedi said the library was requested to open the study room round-the-clock by the Free Student’s Union. These rooms were usually open from 5 am to 7 pm. “This will help students who do not have time to study during the day. The students have welcomed this decision,” says Subedi. 6 sentenced to 2 years for assault on Prem Chalaune

File Photo Kathmandu, November 24 The Kathmandu District Court has sentenced six individuals who attacked Tribhuvan University Assistant Professor Prem Chaluane to two years imprisonment. The bench of Judge Binod Khatiwada, convicted the then President of Nepal Student Union, Hari Prasad Acharya, Secretary Yogendra Rawal, along with Rupesh Shah, Rabin Lama, Sayuj Shrestha, and Niraj Rana Magar, on the charge of attempting to kill the deputy professor. The court has additionally directed them to pay Rs 2.8 million in compensation to Prem Chalaune. Accused Deepak Ojha was, however, acquitted. Of the accused, Hari Acharya is presently in the US. The other accused have failed to appear for the court hearing.
