Record-breaking mountain guide Tenjen Sherpa dies on Shishapangma

Kathmandu, October 9

Record-breaking mountain guide, Tenjen Sherpa (Lama), who was missing in Shishapangma after being hit by an avalanche, has died,

Sherpa recently climbed all 14 8,000-metre mountains in only 92 days with his client Kristin Harilla.

Sherpa’s expedition agency, Seven Summit Treks, confirmed his death. Sherpa was climbing with US climber Gina Marie who was on the verge of completing the 14 peaks. She is still reported missing on the mountain.

American climber Anna Gutu and her guide Mingmar Sherpa, who were also struck by the avalanche, died on the mountain on Saturday.

According to reports, the avalanche occurred around 7,800 metres burning the climbers who were on their way to the summit. A number of climbers have been injured due to the avalanche.
